The Protests in Iran

The Iranian protests were riots against the government of Iran after the killing of 22 year old Mahasa Amini for ”not wearing a hijab properly.” The protest began to occur on 9/16/22 in Tehran, originally the protests were just because of the killing of Mahasa Amini, but soon, others took to the streets to bring up other issues.

The Protests began when Mahasa Amini, a Kurdish – Irani woman was killed by Irani government authorities for not wearing the hijab to the state’s liking. Ever since the Islamic revolution in 1978-79. the Islamic revolution changed Iran from a progressive nation to an Islamic theocracy, women went from having control over nearly all aspect of their life to every move they made being policed. Many women have been abused by Iran’s hijab policies, but Amini was the straw that broke the camels back, and is starting a revolution.

This all started when the shah get overthrown in 1978-79, and since then women have lost all rights. The Shah allowed women many more freedoms than the current Islamic theocratic government. Tensions have been rising since then, and the killing of Amini started a revolution. Iranis have lost all access to the outside world.
