No matter how hard high school is for Rubi Flores, she keeps pushing herself to do her best despite the difficulties. Flores is a 10th grader at DSST Montview High School. She works hard to achieve excellent grades to make her family proud. She always finds a way to manage her work, even when the teachers assign her five papers to finish in one day, and she can’t complete them at home.
“Try to do all your work, even if it’s the smallest thing, even if you think it’s a waste of time. I promise you, you’re gonna see a big improvement just for the littlest thing you did,” said Rubi Flores.
Somehow, she finds a way to go to the gym even after the hard work she does at school. She loves going to the gym. To me, she seems like she loves to challenge herself.
“My favorite hobby is going to the gym. It makes me feel good about myself,” said Rubi Flores. “If you’re not feeling good about yourself, I say go to the gym or not even that. Find something you love. That’s what I did, now look at me, I love going to the gym.”
Rubi has been going to Montview since middle school and now plans to leave for junior and senior year because her mom wants her closer since her sister, Natalia Flores, is graduating this year in 2024.
“Something I would tell freshman is that no matter how much friends you have in middle school and how much you think it’s so cool to have so much friends, it’s not. Once you get into high school, everything gonna change. It’s better to stay alone or have one friend that would convince you to be good in school,” said Rubi Flores.
