A young Melanie Chavez sits in front of her TV, watching “The Good Doctor” in awe, realizing she now knows what she wants to become.
Melanie Chavez is a sophomore at DSST Montview High School. As someone who has always been inspired by people who dedicate their lives to helping others, Chavez plans to one day become a cardiologist by continuing to focus and succeed in her academic studies.
“The thought of helping people just seems fun,” Chavez said with a big smile.
Although becoming a cardiologist will be incredibly hard, Chavez keeps her head up and remains positive throughout. She has taken inspiration from many places in her life, not just shows. One source of inspiration is her sister.
“My sister inspired me because she always told me I could accomplish this,” Chavez stated.
Besides her sister, Chavez’s biggest supporter is herself, namely her ability to stay confident in herself and her knowledge that she can achieve anything she works towards.
“There are many doctors in my family so I know I can achieve this and much more,” Chavez says with a proud look on her face.
Even though Chavez’s passion for cardiology is strong, she is still split between it and another profession that she loves.
“I had wanted to go into cosmetology… I still have them both in mind but I believe I will be better set up for the future in cardiology.” Chavez said, talking about other career paths.
Despite the large differences between these two fields, Chavez truly loves both of them in her heart.
“I wanted to be a cosmetologist because I’ve always liked stuff in beauty like makeup and hair,” Chavez said when asked about her interest in cosmetology.
However, despite her interest in cosmetology, Chavez’s true hope and goal still lie in cardiology.
Chavez spoke about her future with optimism, saying “In 10-15 years I hope I already have my apartment, I’m still in med school, and I already have my first kid.”
Despite her clear goals for the future, Chavez doesn’t lose sight of the present, continuing to be a great influence to many of her classmates.
“Chavez is always a great help when I don’t understand something, whether it be learning it together or she already knows what’s happening. She’s one of my go-to’s if I need help.” Anel Arroniz remarked about her classmate.
Chavez remains a strong influence on all of those around her, and with her high hopes for the future, Chavez will accomplish many great things. Whether in an operation room, a salon, or somewhere else, Chavez has a bright future.
